Ergonomic Assessment Sweeps in Silicon Valley

For a company with 300 to 600 office employees, providing ergonomic evaluations for every workstation using the traditional approach is inefficient. Ergobility can perform an ergonomic assessment sweep that does it’s homework. It leverages risk prioritization to efficiently evaluate large employee populations. It does not mean that individuals do not get the care and attention they deserve but rather addresses employees that are experiencing discomfort or are of greater risk quicker.

An effective ergonomic assessment begins before the consultant starts evaluating employees in the workplace. Ergobility will gain an understanding of the organization’s workforce, job functions, work environments, reported concerns, and existing ergonomic practices. They will then categorize exposure groups. Some may be reporting discomfort, others showing a high risk since their equipment does not match their size, such as a chair that is too big or too small. Sometimes the desk or displays are stuck to where it is too high or too far.

During an ergonomic sweep, Ergobility performs quick assessments that are based on employee discomfort and concerns ensuring that all factors that would be contributing are address. Then the ergonomic specialist will move to ensuring the fit is correct and lastly body mechanics are ideal. The evaluator will typically look to solving things that are superficial relatively quickly with the mutual understanding that the evaluation is to be at most 15 minutes. However, any single individual ergonomic evaluation session is usually very productive in that little amount of time. Considering that some individual ergonomic evaluations can go up to 1 – 2 hours.

An effective ergonomic assessment will consider how employees actually perform feel about their current setup. Studies prove that psychosocial factors are very important to consider which is why it is important to survey individuals. Otherwise, it is very difficult to get every single evaluation to be a 10/10 rating score. If you have the data, you know where to target efforts and can get more perfect service scores overall. Ergobility incorporates employee feedback into the assessment process to understand discomfort, perceived limitations, task challenges, and opportunities for improvement. This participatory approach helps ensure that recommended interventions are practical and compatible with the way work is actually performed.

After an assessment sweep is performed, Ergobility will consolidate findings into a company-wide ergonomic risk profile. This enables management to identify recurring risk factors, departments requiring additional attention, common equipment issues, and opportunities for standardized ergonomic improvements. For a 300-to-600-person Silicon Valley organization, this creates a scalable model for assessing and improving company culture, retention, and reducing worker injury.
