We work from where we work nowadays. If you need to be in the office, then you might have an office, and if you can do you thing at home, well many individuals are transforming portions of their homes into their permanent office. However, without implementing proper ergonomic practices, this can lead to possible discomfort and long-term diseases of soft tissues such as tendons, nerves, and synovial sheaths. We are offering here some ergonomic strategies recommended by top ergonomic experts that will ensure you stay healthy and productive in your work from home environment. First and foremost, invest in a reasonable office task chair. Throw money at this one. It will be worth it. Think about the number of hours you will spend in the chair and start dividing out the time by the cost. You will then realize that spending even over a grand, is still a reasonable expenditure. Your chair needs to sufficiently support the natural inward curve of your lower spine. It also needs to have plenty of adjustability and discourage pressure points. Second, just get a height adjustable thin computer desk. It will not only allow you to stand and work, but it will also help you fine tune the proper height adjustment for your keyboard and mouse as well when seated. It is critical to have your desk to be at the right height so that when you type and using the mouse your elbows and forearms are free to move in a neutral position. You don't need to splurge on monitor arms. Just get height adjustable monitors or place them on a stand of some sort. It can be a firm box or ream of paper even unless you are concerned with aesthetics which is another thing outside the ergonomics concern. Monitor placement is one way to prevent leaning forward and awkward postures of the neck, shoulders, and upper back. The top of your computer monitor needs to match eye level and be about an arm’s length away with your back completely touching the back of the chair. Laptop displays that are used as a display need to be on a laptop stand as well and an external keyboard and mouse need to be used. Position your monitor perpendicular to windows and other sources of ambient light to avoid glare. Ergonomic experts advise following the 20-20-20 rule to maintain 20-20 vision which means doing the following: every 20 minutes, take a 20-second break to look at something 20 feet away. This reduces eye strain. Stand up, stretch, and move around once per hour. You can do keep yourself free from an ergonomic injury by having the right home office setup. Your body will thank you in the end! Are you in need of personal professional consultation? Check out our website and call our local specialist today to schedule on-site or virtual consultation.
