Read on to find out!

Workplace Ergonomics

Properly positioning your chair, keyboard and monitor are important for a comfortable shift at work. In addition to providing comfort, it reduces strain, fatigue, and injuries.

Ergonomics Support

Ergonomics is also known as human support where objects and environments are designed in a way that fits the individual’s needs perfectly. The needs could be physical like the motions required on the job, the posture as well as environmental like noise, lighting, and temperature.

5 Aspects of Ergonomics

There are 5 aspects of ergonomics that we would be discussing and how they make a difference to your everyday life.

  1. Safety

In today’s world, ergonomics is very important. It is not just limited to buying a single chair that provides comfort for your workplace. Ergonomics is about even ensuring your kitchen cabinets are the optimal height and depth for you. Ergonomic evaluations can make your life at home easier too, not just at your workplace.

  1. Ease of Use

When getting a comfortable chair, you need to also ascertain that the height of the chair is adjusted accordingly. The computer monitor should be placed such that it doesn’t cause undue stress on the eyes.

Ideally, the top of the screen should be right below eye level so there is no strain on the neck.

  1. Comfort

Choosing a comfortable chair that supports ergonomics should not just come with old age. We see teenagers with back issues because of this exact reason. Even a child should have a chair that supports their back and allows their feet to touch the floor. This maintains good posture and provides comfort.

  1. Productivity

Performance is directly proportional to the comfort around you. In a house, the kitchen is typically the most used room. And there is a certain ideal height for each component to be most ergonomically suitable, maximize performance and reduce work stress.

  1. Aesthetics

What’s pleasing to the eye is really important in our productivity too. When we will like what our space looks like, we would want to spend more time there and therefore, be more productive and efficient.

Recommendations

Working from home has become a part of life during COVID-19 times. It took a while for us to adjust to it and not knowing how to go about it, we choose to work on our couches, beds, and uncomfortable chairs which caused a lot of strain on our bodies. Here are a few recommendations when working from home to avoid stressing our bodies:

  1. Work with your laptop on a desk. Avoid using your couch or bed for too long.
  2. Put the laptop on a stand or even a stack of books. The top of the screen should be at eye level.
  3. Separate input devices like a keyboard and mouse really help with the strain on your wrists and arms.
  4. Separate monitors are recommended as they have higher resolution that reduces strain on our eyes and their height can be adjusted too.
  5. Physical movement is very important; take regular breaks and move around the room a bit.
