Dimensional letters are the workhorse of the signage industry. They are versatile in that they fit many applications whether interior or exterior. The make excellent lobby, storefront and way finding markers. There are a multitude of options regarding materials, thicknesses and finishes.
Acrylic, PVC and Plastics are long lasting and well suited for interior and exterior applications. These materials can be router or laser cut in thicknesses ranging from 1/8th of an inch to 1 inch. The height of the lettering depends on the available space and the appearance the client is looking for. Additionally, for exterior applications you have to consider the traffic and speed in front of your sign so as to make sure the sign is legible under those specific conditions. The further the distance from the sign and higher the speed, the taller the letters need to be.
For interior uses, acrylic offers the distinct advantage of presenting your lobby wall with a chic and glossy appearance, which is attractive and makes the marker stand out. We can combine the dimensional letters with acrylic or metallic back boards to add more dimension and interest to the sign. PVC materials are durable and budget-friendly. Foam letters are best suited for interior use and comes in many laminated finished faces including brushed metals, colored acrylic and painted looks for that custom application.
HDU(High Density Urethane) is a foam product that can be carved and finished with high end epoxy paints and gold flake finishes. When you desire an interior sign that provides a dramatic 3D effect, this material provides the thickness to custom carve or contour shapes and designs into the thickness of the foam. This type of sign can really provide an eye popping sign that looks very unique. For exterior usage, foam provides durability and versatility. We can paint it or apply digitally printed vinyl overlays that allows for graduated coloring to your letters as well as a broad range of style elements.
Metal letters are mostly made from aluminum. The lightweight material does not rust and may be painted to take on a broad range of looks. Metal letters are available in flat cut shapes or cast to add additional dimension. Mounting options include the flush mount or the projected mount that makes the lettering stand out. Other metal options, available for interior applications, include bronze, stainless steel and brass. These can supplied with various finishes: polished, brushed and painted.
We recently completed a project for a new restautant in Eagle, PA called bloom.
David, the owner, gave us a call to help with the exterior signage. He initially considered an illuminated pole sign located in front of the restaurant which had an unusual shaped space making it difficult to create a design that would fit with the architecture and location. The design morphed into a dimensional letter configuration oriented vertically which fit the building facade very well and could be located near the heavily traveled road. We finalized sizing and created art for the front and back of the building. We decided in 1/2″ black acrylic letters with a matte finish. Mounting the letters on standoffs provided more dimension to the letters. Along with the restaurant name sign, David needed some wayfinding signage in the back to direct diners to the front of the building. The opening was only a few short weeks away so we had to get to work right away to produce the letters and complete the installation. The installation went flawlessly and the end result fits well with the architecture of the building and surrounding areas. The standoffs create a stunning shadowing effect during the day adding a ton of interest to the sign.
