Every store or business has vacant wall space that can be utilized to brighten a space, display your logo or core values or create a unique theme or message! With the capability of digital printing, wall graphics have exploded into a category that was previously done by hand painting. The digital printing capabilities and wide variety of materials accessible allow you to display a graphic that looks like a hand painting or a sharp, crisp image of an actual landscape and more.
Types of Wall Graphics and Murals
The type of wall graphics are typically sorted by coverage. The nomenclature for these different types are full wall wraps which cover the entire wall, partial wall wraps which cover just parts of a wall or die-cut wall decals and lettering which can be logos, motivational phrases or even way finding signage. The choice depends upon your goal. A focal point wall with logo and company promise might fit best as a partial wrap at the lobby entrance – while a themed restaurant dining room wall might work best with a full wrap. Decals and lettering can be spot placed for maximum effect if the wall color is an appropriate background color. Exterior walls can also be wrapped, even brick or block surfaces can be wrapped with the appropriate wall material.
Finishes and Material Choices
Material selection for wall graphics is constantly growing. most common self adhesive vinyl’s are used for indoor applications, a matte finish laminate is preferred as it knocks down the glare from overhead lighting. Exterior applications in natural light can be done in matte or semi-gloss. Textured and brick surfaces require a conformable cast vinyl (more expensive), while totally flat/smooth walls can use a less expensive calendared wall film. There are now more selections with textured vinyl’s to create the look of canvas, leather and other textured finishes.
A fairly new entrance into the market is wall paper type materials that is either pre-pasted or requires standard wall paper paste for installation. These materials offer many texture and finish options including selections that meet Class “A” fire ratings that are required by many new construction spaces.
For self adhesive vinyl it is important that a technician visits the site to perform an adhesion test on your walls to insure the material selected has the appropriate adhesive that will hold over time as well as double check dimensions and obstructions. The test will allow us to find the least expensive option that will adhere to your wall surface. The wall test is very important and a step that most other companies don’t take!
