With your back round how did you get into the sign industry?
While in the professional world I came to the conclusion that I'd be a much happier person if I worked for myself. A few friends and I contemplated opening up one type of business or another. Many ideas were discussed at length but nothing really materialized as a possibility. Our discussion never reached too far outside the group of small friends.
In November of 2008 I was laid off of my twelve year job with the world's largest bank. After enjoying a month or two of peace and quiet I decided on a few things. One, there aren't any good jobs in the finance market. Two, because there are so many people out of work firms aren't hiring people with experience outside of their market. Three, time to get that back surgery I need. And finally, four, I need to find a way to make my own money and realize my dream.
Steve Rosencrans at Entrepreneurs Source helped me realize my dream. After interviewing me extensively he presented six business options. Some of the options were franchises, others were business opportunities. Once presented with the six he asked me to pick three to investigate thoroughly. This was surprisingly simple and my three were chosen. After digging into these three choices it became evident that the Signworld opportunity was for me.
Honestly, if you would have given me ten to one odds that I would have picked the sign industry I wouldn't have taken the bet. I never would have imagined I'd be interested in opening up my own sign company. After speaking with numerous owners on the phone I got the courage to go visit a couple of people on site. This only solidified my thinking.
The sign industry was going to be a great fit! Every project is different. Most projects allow me to help people solve problems. There were so many different variables in the sign business that I would never get bored. There were so many types of signs it was unbelievable (channel letters, monument signs, vehicle wraps, trade show displays, commercial real estate signs, etc).
And the rest they say is history. I am now the proud owner of
