One of the first questions I ask a customer is where they are going to use their sign.
If a sign is going to be used outdoors the second question I ask is how long do you expect to use the sign for? Sunlight is the enemy of print and sign materials. The UV rays from the sun deteriorate the inks and materials that signs are made of.
Interior signs do not require protection from UV rays from the sun. Exterior signs require protection if they are expected to last longer than six months (this can vary based on what part of the country you are in). Protection from UV rays comes in two forms. The first is laminate. Laminate is a clear coating that provides protection from UV rays and from the weather. It helps create a surface that cleans with soap and water. The second is material choice. Different materials must be used to create signs with heavy weather and sun exposure. Material choice can mean the difference in life from six months to ten years.
Make sure you and your sign company chooses the materials wisely. If you need any assistance please don’t hesitate to call us at (630) 289-7082
