Hi, I am Ron Bockstahler, and I’m the CEO of Amata Office Suites. I’m also the host of the 1958 lawyer podcast, and I’m coming to you today from 161 North Clark in downtown Chicago. I’m on the 17th floor, where we are in the process of doing a build-out for a new floor.
Amata Attorney Services
Amata is an attorney support services company. We provide office space, phone answering, and legal support services such as paralegals, runners to the courts, legal assistance, and virtual admin support to law firms.
We help about eight hundred law firms in Chicago, and we’ve been doing this for 20 years.
A New Floor at 161 North Clark
Amata already owns and runs the 16th floor of this building. It’s a great building and right across from the Thompson Center, the Daley Center, and City Hall making it a prime location with lots of demand from attorneys.
Work in Progress
The project is taking off, and we can see the first week of construction is taking place. The electricians were in this week taking down the old lighting fixtures. Then next week we’ll start doing some demolition. Most of the area will be demolished, but there will be a handful of offices that we will keep to try and reduce our costs.
I’ll be coming to you once a week to give you updates on this project and will discuss how things are going. Currently, construction prices are high, and there are a lot of delays going. However, we think we will be in good shape to have an opening around August 1st.
We are working on keeping some of the internal offices that we won’t demolish to help save time and money. This was an open floor plan on this side of the building, and we will be adding more interior offices along the window line offering great views.
The reception area and the lounge will have a cafe on the window line. It’ll be west-facing so that you will have fantastic views of the Thompson Center. On the 16th floor, the cafe is on the east window line making this a different experience.
This floor will be a little more traditional than what we’ve done on the 16th floor
From the café, we keep walking over here where one of the conference rooms will be. The floor has two exterior conference rooms. These are great for depositions, meeting with clients, or just having team meetings.
This is a big thing we’re seeing today. Many law firms are giving up their office space because they have anywhere from 10 to 15 attorneys, but they are working remotely. They can meet with clients and have meetings, but they still work primarily remotely. So, they’re taking three or four offices at Amata to use as a home base.
We will be keeping the current reception desk in place, but then the rest of this area will be demolished to make a more open entrance.
