When a senior starts to lose their mobility, they can feel a loss of freedom and it can become difficult for their family members to adequately care for them. In this situation, family members might look for in-home care professionals to help ensure their loved ones are safe, happy, and able to perform their desired tasks.
As a leading provider of in-home care services in the East Bay, our team of well-trained, caring, and compassionate individuals offer assistance for people suffering from all types of ailments. Our team members are specifically trained to assist with sensitive issues, and we have many great people who can help with mobility issues.
In the sections to follow, we will discuss the different ways our team members can assist seniors who are having difficulties moving from place to place. If you have a loved one who is having mobility issues, read on to learn how we can help.
Creating a Comfortable, Safe Environment
The last thing a senior with mobility issues needs is to suffer from a trip and fall accident. One of the first things we do when beginning to work with a new patient is to learn from them how they typically go about their days, and then examine their home to account for difficult stairs, trip hazards, and obstacles which could cause difficulty for them. By rearranging furniture, introducing walkers/canes, and creating an easy path for them, we can limit the risk of injury due to their limited mobility.
Daily Task Assistance
In addition to ensuring a safe home, our caregivers also can assist with daily tasks which require mobility, or which could put the patient in danger. We assist with everyday tasks like laundry, dishes, cooking, and cleaning, and also can provide more in-depth, sensitive care such as providing assistance with bathing, restroom visits, and more. The assistance we provide greatly varies depending on the needs of the patient, but it’s our goal to ensure they are comfortable and can have their normal tasks done each week.
Transportation Assistance
While our caregivers offer in-home assistance, this doesn’t mean they are not ready and trained to help with transportation to and from appointments and other important meetings for our clients. Depending on the level of mobility assistance the patient needs, we offer transportation assistance which can accommodate wheelchairs, and specialized vehicles to help get them where they need to go.
Expert Therapy and Rehab
Many seniors have mobility issues which are a result of an injury, ailment, or surgical procedure. In many cases, the issues they are experiencing can be improved over time with expert medical care and access to physical therapy/rehab. While it is our goal to provide immediate assistance for our patients, we also aim to help them improve over time. To advance this aim, our caregivers are trained in helping patients with in-home physical therapy exercises to improve their mobility.
