The John Acuña Veterans Resource Center is connected to Santa Ana College. Previously, we assisted the school with perforated window graphics, word wall graphics, and a combination of wall and window graphics to brand the admissions building.
For this project, the school’s administration requested building letters to help students with wayfinding. So far, they had used an A-frame sign to identify the Resource Center’s entrance. Going forward, the client will use half-inch-thick aluminum building letters to identify the facility. Our installers painted the letters slate gray, which contrasts well with the white facade.
Finding the location is now easy, even from across the campus.
What Types of Letters are Best for Exterior Building Signs?
Aluminum dimensional letters are the best all-around option for exterior building letters. They are durable, lightweight, paintable, and budget-friendly. If you need internal illumination, channel letters are the right choice. For a contemporary, premium display, acrylic or stainless steel is a great option.
What is the Difference Between Channel Letters and Dimensional Letters?
Channel and dimensional letters feature depth and excellent visibility. However, channel letters are hollow and contain LEDs for built-in illumination. In contrast, dimensional letters rely on exterior light sources for nighttime visibility. That said, this signage option opens the door to various material choices, making it ideal for brand building.
Can Building Letters be Removed?

Our technicians will then patch the walls or remove adhesive residue to prepare the surface for a new sign. What Size Should Building Letters Be?
Building letter height depends directly on the desired viewing distance, traffic speed in front of the building, the facade’s scale, and any local regulations that govern signage at your location. As a general rule of thumb, an 18-inch letter height is a suitable option for the average commercial building. For larger facilities, go up to 36 or 48 inches.
