In last week’s blog, we discussed the world of social media eCommerce. Apps like Pinterest, Tik Tok, Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram have been actively working on growing their in-app sales. In fact, the social media shopping industry is projected to be worth over $2 trillion by 2024 leaving many businesses wondering if it’s a good fit for their brand.
We weighed the pros and cons of selling directly through social media apps:
Pros:
- Faster sales process
- Increased brand exposure
- Ease of interacting with customers
Cons:
- Lack of consumer trust in social media apps
- Lack of personalization
- Less control for businesses
Social media commerce is a great option for retailers with smaller items that won’t need to be returned. For larger businesses where customers want to see and experience the quality of a product in person, it’s not worth your time investing in social media sales just yet.
The rise of new augmented reality software within these apps is growing. As it does it will continue to change the landscape of eCommerce. Virtual try on’s will start to replace in-person try on’s and make online sales easier than ever.
Just make sure this isn’t your only eCommerce strategy as social media commerce isn’t made to replace a company’s website. Customers are still more likely to trust a company’s website for secure checkout more than a social media app. It’s also important for your business to maintain its own website in case social media platform popularity shifts.
