3/21-Oakland, CA- Tips for Spring Cleaning and Organizing Your Bedroom

BY: Your Name, Your Business

Last week, we discussed the basic steps for spring cleaning and organizing your home. Today, we’re jumping in and starting with cleaning and organizing the bedroom.  Having a clean and organized bedroom is imperative. Spring cleaning the bedroom is a wonderful start, but it’s a room that needs mindful cleaning throughout the year. These tips will help you get started.

Declutter in 30 Minutes

Begin by decluttering for around 30 minutes. Gather three baskets: One for things that don’t belong in the bedroom, one for things to donate, and one for things to throw away. Pay attention to items like extra books and magazines on your nightstand, or miscellaneous trinkets on your dresser. Only keep what brings you joy. Gather up any dirty laundry and take it down to the laundry room before you begin heavier cleaner.

Clean Surfaces & Windows

Dust and wipe everything down, including the furniture, bed frame, lamps, and trinkets. Begin at the top of the room and work your way down, so you won’t spread excess dust everywhere.

Clean the windows using a rubber-edged squeegee, which makes it easier to reach high and difficult to reach spots. Begin by washing the window with a damp sponge and mild soap mixture. Wipe the dirt away, and use the squeegee to go back and forth over the window until its clean.

Change Bedding & Start Laundry

Strip all your linens off your bed. Wash your sheets, mattress cover, and blankets in the hottest temperature setting your linens allow. It’s the ideal time to wash your pillows too, as they recommend washing those two to three times as well. Wipe down the bed frame to remove any excess dirt and grime. If it’s possible, try to clean or at least air out your mattress in the sun. Therefore, it’s best to start this in the morning, so you can put fresh linens on at night once everything has dried.

Tackle under the bed storage

Take the time to pull out everything from underneath your bed. Use along-reach duster and clean completely under it. Decide what needs to go back underneath it and if there is a more efficient way to store it.

Perfect Your Bedroom Closet

Part of having the perfect, organized closet is knowing its inventory.  If you haven’t worn it in the past year, it’s time to donate it. There are many local consignment shops, and an online company, ThredUp will sell your items for you. After that, add some organizational and storage dividers to help make your closet functional. Rehang all the clothes that have fallen to the floor and organize them in groups, such as all your suits, all your skirts, and all your blouses.  Add some drawer dividers or clear shelf dividers, where you can organize your sweaters or other clothing. Lastly, invest in quality LED lighting so you’ll never grab the wrong outfit in the dark.

These are just a few tips for spring cleaning your bedroom. Next week we’ll tackle the kids’ playroom. . If you would like more tips, please contact Refresh Organizers & Designers at (510) 570-1292.
