It’s true what they say: your space affects your state of mind. Therefore if your office space is over cluttered and messy, it may hinder your decision-making process and cause anxiety and uncertainty instead. These following tips will help you declutter and reorganize your office so you can think more creatively.

  • Go through everything on your desk and decide if use it, if you need a physical copy of it or if you scan a digital copy into the computer to save space.
  • Create a “later” basket for documents that don’t need your immediate attention. Only keep the papers or documents on your desk that you’re currently working on. Empty the “later” basket every night before it becomes too chaotic.
  • Purge your files and shred or recycle those you’re positive you no longer need. Send other files to client storage so that they are out of your way.
  • Consider going digital.  If your files are stored digitally by keyword and date, then it’s easier for employees to locate the appropriate file just by typing a few words. You don’t have to hunt all around the office and hope it was put away properly.
  • Integrate a clean desk policy. A corporate clean desk policy(CDP) involves a set of standards determining how employees will leave their desk and area at the end of each day and consequences if they don’t follow through. These rules may include cleaning away clutter, shredding or putting away documents, and organizing files. 
  • Consider putting in communal work spaces and desks at the office. This promotes co-worker collaboration and bouncing creative ideas of one another.
  • Add some color to inspire creativity.  The shade of blue invites thinking outside your usual realm and a natural shade of green refreshes your mind.
