Typically, bedrooms aren’t a room visitors see so that room becomes cluttered with laundry, overstuffed closets, and shopping bags. However, the bedroom should be a peaceful retreat where you can relax and sleep after a long day. These tips will help you create a more restful bedroom.
  • Make your bedroom a peaceful area. This means it’s time to eliminate the piles of unfolded laundry from your bed or the arm chair. Keep that in a designated area like the laundry room.
  • Start with the bed. Keep it luxurious but simple. Invest in some bedroom linens, and make time to make your bed each morning. However, don’t go crazy with extra throws or pillows that just make the room look cluttered.
  • Keep only the essentials in your bedroom.  This means assessing what you really need to keep in there and eliminating anything that makes the bedroom look or feel chaotic. Look at all the junk that gets hidden under the bed. Sort through items, deciding what’s staying and what you’re throwing away. This also includes storing off-season clothes in a chest in the guest room or the basement.
  • Declutter your bedside table and dresser. Install some drawer organizers. These will keep your bras, panties, and socks from becoming a tangled mess and make it easier to select a pair.
  • Declutter your closet. If you haven’t done this in a long time, your closet may be overstuffed with clothes you no longer wear, uncomfortable shoes, and seasonal clothes that could be stored elsewhere. I know I’m guilty of holding onto sundresses long after they no longer fit.  Ask yourself if your clothes and shoes still fit or do they pinch or scratch? Do you still like them and wear them? If not, it’s time to donate them. If you’re donating many items, you could get a tax write-off.
  • Keep a large bin inside your closet and do a weekly clutter swap. This allows you to assess clothes that may have gotten holey and need to be tossed. It also allows you to hang up and re-organize any items that have fallen in your closet and see if there’s any you want to donate.
  • Invest in a closet organizer, which features extra hanging racks, sweater cubbies, and shoe organizers. Find one that best fits your needs.
These are just a few tips to help you declutter and freshen up your bedroom and closet. The professionals at Refresh Organizers would be happy to assess your bedroom’s needs and assist you with reorganizing the room. Call us today at 510-984-1607 to set up an appointment.
