Oakland, CA – Professional Home Organization. 3 Move-in and Storage Ideas.

BY: Your Name, Your Business

Moving for the first time is hard enough. Moving all of your furniture and belongings from one home to another is even more stressful. Some of our favorite tips for organizing your new home include the following: figuring out your space plan, creating storage ideas, and unpacking and fixing up each room.

Deciding Your Space Plan

It’s often easier to decide your space plan and where you’re going to place your furniture before you move in. Take time to visit your new home, study the layout, and decide the function of each room. Consider the function of each room. Is your living area ultra formal or more laidback for entertaining? Do you own chic and casual furniture? Is each room separate or do you have an open floor plan? With less wall space, you lose room to hang artwork or place furniture. However, if you’re setting up a dual-purpose room, the back of a couch works wonderfully as a room divider.

Add Storage Ideas to Each Room

Invest in several over the door shoe organizers. While they are handy for organizing your shoes, they are useful for storing so much more.  You can use in the office and store all the electrical cords and chargers in it. Just label each one. You can also put in the kids room to store stuffed animals and get clutter of the floor. Buy some plastic drawers or plastic containers that you can stack and use like drawers. In the kitchen, place them in the cabinet and label them accordingly, such as glass jars, or measuring cups. In a play room, mark each drawer with a photo of the toys inside, such as Legos, plastic dinosaurs, or Barbie dolls. That way, even if your children can’t read yet, they know where to return their toys.

Get Your House Organized

Plan ahead and schedule a few days off from work to try and unpack and arrange as much as possible. Unpack and organize one room at a time by what’s most important you. It’s often best to begin in the kitchen because it’s a heavily used room. Place items that will be used daily such as silverware and everyday dishes in accessible drawers and cupboards. Other items that aren’t used regularly can be stored higher up. You’re probably want to work on the bedrooms and the bathrooms next, as those are heavily used areas as well.
