Many of our clients wonder what they should do with their excess belongings. Nowadays in California, where many residents have a lot of stuff, it’s become difficult to sell your belongings unless they are of real value. Sometimes Goodwill won’t even take everything. We have compiled a list of thrift stores, recycling centers, and shelters and charities accepting donations. Bambino Thrift Shop: 5290 College Avenue, Oakland, CA The Bambino Thrift Shop accepts donations of new or used items in good condition. They welcome clothing and jewelry, bedroom linens and quilts, kitchenware and home décor. They will also accept some furniture, antiques, and decorative art. All of your donations benefit the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland. The shop is open Wednesday and Thursday from 10 am to 2: 30 pm and Saturday from noon until 3:30 pm. Urban Ore: 900 Murray Street, Berkeley, CA Urban Ore accepts many items for their resale shop, as well as reusable building materials. They accept most appliances and furniture. They also collect housewares and decorative art. For a complete list, check their website. They offer trade credits to purchase anything in their store for up to one year.  Urban Ore is open daily, and if you’re bringing a large amount, they recommend arriving earlier in the day. El Cerrito Recycling and Environmental Resource Center: 7501 Schmidt Ln, El Cerrito, CA The center offers its community an easy way to drop off many household items and electronics. The center accepts electronics, such as cell phones, computer monitors, and DVD players as part of their e-waste program. They also accept exercise equipment and electric appliances as part of scrap metal. They also have an exchange program for used books. They are open 7 days a week. Oakland Elizabeth House, Berkeley, CA  Around 36 percent of America’s homeless people live in California, and you can help by donating your unwanted household items to Oakland Elizabeth House, a local shelter. They consistently need women’s and children’s rain gear, baby items, cleaning supplies and household items. They typically receive donations Monday's 10 am to 7 pm and Tue-Thurs 10 am to 2 pm. Please call 510-658-1380 for their current needs. We all purge our belongings every so often, and these options, allow us to help those in need.
