Oh, did I mention to you the costs of sending them to Harvard or Stanford in 18 years is going to be three-quarters of a million dollars? What a bummer. But wait. We can help. We do a lot of analysis on the smartest way for funding for college. We like 529s, as you can put funds into 529s tax-free. We don't even charge fees on them because a lot of them can run themselves. How much you should put in? Well, if you make enough income that you're not going to qualify for financial aid, you're kind of hosed! You're going to be paying the full rate. In that case, you fund it as much as you can afford. We'll do the calculations to show you exactly how much it is on a monthly basis. And generally, once we do that, you have a heart attack. https://youtu.be/meHz_11k40Y We recommend you start with what is affordable.  You can start with one hundred and fifty dollars a month, be because every little bit helps. And you're so grateful when they go off to college and you have that money that's grown tax-free. And if you're a financial aid candidate, we may steer you in a different direction and not fund for college as much can optimize your financial aid situation. And if you're in-between, then you should hedge your bets and we'll do a calculation of what that should be. So that you're still funding your retirement and everything. And if your circumstances improve, you can always increase it. Here's the good news. The average middle-class family saves a third in advance for college. They scrambled for the second, third through income, and the last third is paid through student loans. We can advise you on how to save for college to optimize your situation. So when your kids go to college, you're better than most people.
