Do Auto Wraps Really Work for Business Marketing?

This topic has come up a few times since I started my business, and people are always intrigued by auto wraps. They can be as simple or complex as you like, they could be a solid color or they can be on printed vinyl. The wraps I’ll be talking about are professional, business-to-business auto wraps.
The Basic Rules of Wraps
Most businesses invest in auto wraps without doing the research or working with reputable companies that take the time to properly educate them on their investment.
Business owners should keep in mind that they are advertising on a moving target. Although this type of advertisement is one of the most effective at generating impressions on customers in your area, sometimes it can be difficult to read.
The best strategy when designing your wrap is to keep it large and simple. There’s no need to go over the top with scenes of Allen, Texas in the background of your business name, or 20 different colors. Choose large letters with simple colors that pop and can be easily read at a distance.
Your wrap should effectively display your brand and contact information, and can be clearly read from all sides of the road.
Caring for Your Wrap
Business owners should remember that even the best wraps aren’t designed to last more than 7 years at the very most (and that’s only on vertical surfaces). Realistically, a properly installed wrap that is well taken care of will last around 5 years. If it is not installed by an experienced person or not taken care of, you can guarantee it will be less than that.
Here are a few things you want to make sure of when you are getting your wrap installed.
- Is the area clean and free of dust and debris?
- Is the area temperature controlled?
- Does the technician take care around the curves of the vehicle?
- Are the graphics level and free of bubbles?
The business owner’s responsibility doesn’t stop at the install. In order to get the most out of your investment, you must continue to take care of your wrap. Try to keep the vehicle out of harsh, Texas weather (I know this is hard to do in places like Wylie or Rowlett, Texas). Also only wash the car gently by hand, and don’t apply too many harsh chemicals to the vinyl.
The Answer is Yes
Wraps are one of the most effective types of advertising that a business owner can invest in, just because of the sheer number of impressions that you make with a moving billboard. Also, there could be some favorable tax implications for this type of investment.
The important thing to remember is not to go cheap on this service, there are many small, independent wrap groups or name-brand shops that are not properly trained and may use cheap materials.
