Last week I wrote about the importance of consistency in your branding. This week I thought I'd write about my experiences using signs as the core of that branding experience.
I met with a client this week who wanted to have a few of his trucks wrapped so that he could advertise his business. He had a great logo but but his business cards and electronic advertising were different colours. He knew that this wasn't great but like most business people getting it fixed just wasn't a priority.
When we create a design for a vehicle sign or an outdoor sign we spend whatever time necessary to ensure that that the design is what the client wants. The outcome of this process may be a logo or a logo redesign that can be used across a variety of marketing efforts.
Understanding your business and what you want to convey to your clients and prospects is a critical part of the process. Your branding is likely to be very different if you own an auto body shop or a high tech start-up. A really stylized modern logo might look inappropriate for an auto body. The flip side is that a conservative logo for high-tech start up probably won't work.
Once your design has been finalized, you recieve a DVD a graphic that you can use for your business cards, advertising, website or wherever you concentrate your marketing efforts. As long as the colours are properly reproduced, all the other elements of your marketing plan should now be consistent.
