If you've ever looked into purchasing retractable banner stands you've probably noticed that there is a huge difference in price between the least expensive and most expensive units.  So what's the difference?

1. Quality of hardware - if you only use your pop-up banner stand a couple of times a year an inexpensive stand will probably do the trick. Another important point here is the upper holder; inexpensive units often rely on tape rather than a pinching mechanism.  You only have to have a graphic separate from the holder once to understand the difference quality makes.
2. Appearance -  Lower priced units look the part.  Better quality retractable banner stands are much more stylish and finished with better materials.  Know your audience. If you're at the local home show it likely doesn't matter but if you're trying to impress spend the extra money.
3. Usability - Low priced units are designed to be used with a single graphic.  Some higher priced units are made with cartridges that allow for the easy changing of the banner. If you have different graphics for different shows definitely consider the better unit.
4. Stability - Less expensive units feature feet which are turned out to provide stability.  Over time these can become slightly bent resulting in a unit that tilts forward or backwards.  This of particular concern if you have two or more stands together.
