Topaz SIGNworks – Lindenwood University called us for some help in directing students through on of the floors in their building.
Lindenwood University “is a dynamic four-year liberal arts institution dedicated to excellence in higher education” and “offers more than 200 degree programs to more than 16,000 students through values-centered programs that lead to development of the whole person”.
To help Lindenwood University, Topaz SIGNworks designed a directional/way-finding sign system to replace what was currently in place which was inconsistent in appearance and was incomplete.
We met with our customer to determine what each of the directional/way-finding signs would say. The text included which departments and offices they wanted their audience to be directed to and arrows indicating which direction people should go.
Topaz SIGNworks designed the way-finding signs that utilized high contrasting colors that made the signs very easy to see and read. The high contrasting colors were consistent with the color themes used by the University which proved to be a great fit and very accepted by the decision makers.
The identification of key departments were identified along with the location of each directional/way-finding sign. The solution was themed with a consistence look and feel that incorporated size, colors, and mascot. Keys to effective directional/way-finding signs is to present consistent look & feel and to give the right information at the right visual points that enable the walker in this case to keep moving through the building knowing at all times they are headed in the right direction and end up where they want to be.
The result was a clear directional/way-finding solution that solved the challenge of the walkers finding the “right place to be” and a happy customer.
There are many different types of directional / way-finding sign designs and solutions ranging from very simple to custom designed. Directional / Way-Finding signs are seen in almost any building such as Hospitals, Schools, Sport Stadiums, Doctor and Dentist Offices and buildings that house multiple tenants. Next time you are out and about, take a look around they are everywhere. When you go into a building and need to know what room or suite your doctor is in for example, you probably look for the directory that tells you….this is a directional sign and is called a lobby directory.
