If a pipe bursts in the basement and nobody is there to hear it, it still floods

One family's costly lesson on unseen basement leaks

BY: ,
Well Water TankMom and dad had gone to work for the day. Their daughter, let's call her Jill, had gone to school. The house was quiet. Then the silence was broken by the hissing of water spraying from a pipe in the basement. You see, the house water was supplied by a well fed by a pump into a reservoir tank. The pipe leading from the pump to the tank had burst and was spurting enough water to hit the wall on the opposite side of the room 12 feet away. When this happens, the pump thinks that the tank needs to be filled and will constantly pump until it senses the tank is full. How long it ran is anyone's guess, but "Jill" was the first one home after school and she was greeted by over two inches of water flooding the entire basement level and growing. "Jill" called her mom and went to turn off the pump. Meanwhile, Mom was on the phone with her insurance company who immediately recommended she call Service Team of Professionals in Spokane. The crew leapt into action, loading their vans with water extractors and dehumidifiers and various other items they knew they would need to make the situation right for the family. Upon arriving at the scene, the Service Team saw that the family had split into two groups. One group was drying photographs on a table while the other group was manning a shop vac, trying to vacuum up the standing water in the basement. Our team relieved the second group and recommended they spend their time to make the family dinner as it was getting late. They reassured them that they'd take care of the drying out, and it was time for them to take a deep breath and be at ease. With the family comforted, the experts of Service Team of Professionals set their attention to extracting all the standing water. They collected the items that would need to be cleaned and treated to be brought back with them. Finally, once the standing water was extracted and the personal items were organized, they set up containment, taping plastic to the doorway to seal off a smaller area to dry out. After setting their equipment, the crew returned upstairs with final words for the family. They told the family to get rest tonight and that they would return tomorrow to make a plan of attack. As the family closed the door and returned to their late dinner they knew that everything was going to be just fine.water damaged this door and flooring
