Not because we’re offering the yearly flu shot or health vaccines, but in that we deal a lot with people who have a medical need for window film. Sure, this sounds weird because most people think window tint is for street racers, but there are medical reasons that people are unaware of that actually pertain to almost anyone in the world. First, we should talk about why a medical prescription is needed legally. Legally, we cannot tint beyond 50% light transmittance on the driver/passenger windows of any SUV, van, or truck, or beyond 50% on any windows of any sedan or coupe. According to Minnesota Statute 169.71, one can only tint beyond what is legal provided they have a medical exemption permitting them to do so. Herein lays the biggest issue we have as a tint shop in Minnesota: people cannot get the tint they want or need if it’s beyond 50% unless they have a prescription. The good news is that we believe every single human being on this earth is light sensitive to some degree, and therefore has a reason for window tint. It’s called photophobia to be exact. Better yet, we work with doctors in the Southwest Metro who believe the same. It’s literally a matter of an eye exam and you’ll have a prescription for window film. There are, of course, other medical reasons for needing window tint, like melanoma skin cancer, glaucoma, lupus, sun allergies, and more. The biggest thing we want our customers to know is that it’s not a scam to get a window film prescription. Just because it sounds weird and most people have never done it does not make it unethical. Of the 50 states, 47 other states have less restrictive tinting laws, providing people opportunities to get the window tint they need without a medical exemption. In Minnesota, it’s just another hoop to jump through.
