Lawyer Explains Uncontested Divorce Services

BY: Vonnah Bagner, Bagner Law
Divorces always seem to be dramatic in the movies. Tears, shouting, household objects flying across the room— we’ve all seen the tropes. This isn’t always how things unfold in real life. Sometimes, after much careful thought and deliberation, the couple realizes there are certain differences between them that no amount of communication, mediation, or couples therapy will change. Sometimes, the best course of action is to acknowledge that the marriage is no longer in either party’s best interest and mutually agree that divorce is the best option. If everyone is more or less on the same page, from the initiation of proceedings to property division and more, it is considered an “uncontested divorce.”

Should I Hire a Lawyer Anyway?

Many people believe lawyers are only there to duke it out in the courtroom and take their ex for every last cent, but that’s not exclusively what lawyers do. Even in an uncontested divorce, there are many ways in which they will assist and make the process smoother for everyone. So, even if you and your ex are parting amicably, it’s still worth it to hire a lawyer to facilitate the process. Vonnah Bagner of Bagner Law, PC explains why.

Legal Consultation

So, you’re pretty sure you know exactly what your rights are and exactly how the divorce will play out after the papers are signed, but do you really know? A family lawyer will explain the implications of everything you’re agreeing to, so you’re not surprised with curve balls later on. Knowing what you’re agreeing to upfront is invaluable in making sure you’ve made the right choice.

Document Preparation

Most people aren’t preparing legal documents in their everyday lives. Heck, some of us shudder when we’re handed a new W-4 at work, and we have to decode it all over again to make sure we’re filling out everything properly and signing in the right spots. A family lawyer does all the associated paperwork for the divorce, including the divorce petition, marital settlement agreement, and any other required court forms. Your lawyer makes the process quick and easy, so you can go back to figuring out your W-4.

Final Review

A family lawyer provides value at every step of the divorce process, even if everything is settled during mediation or negotiation, but how can we be sure everything discussed is legal and binding? Your lawyer reviews everything prior to filing to make sure it’s 100% correct, then they file it with the court and it’s a done deal. Most people divorce so they can move to the next chapter of their lives, so it’s an inconvenience, at best, to have to return to the divorce process later in life because something crucial was overlooked. Your family lawyer won’t let that happen. Call Bagner Law, PC today for more information!
