In the sections to follow, we will discuss the major components of your AC unit and the system which delivers cool air throughout your home. We hope this article is informative and we would be happy to answer any additional questions you might have.

Condenser Unit

When you think of an air conditioning system, the first component which likely comes to mind is the large metal box outside your home. This is called the condenser unit. The condenser unit, as you would imagine, is home to the condenser coil. This part is responsible for releasing heat. Modern condensers run at variable stages, making them very efficient. In addition to the condenser, the outdoor unit also contains a compressor which keeps the system running and a large metal fan which is responsible for removing the released heat from the unit. You will notice the sides of condenser units feature louvers, which allow the heat to escape while also protecting the inner components from the elements.

Air Handler

Your AC system has another important component inside your home, typically located in an attic or closet. This is called an air handler, and it’s responsible for the creation of cool air using an evaporator coil. The air handler also is home to a blower to help circulate air, an air filter which traps unwanted items and it feeds into the ducting system to transport cool air to every room in the house. The air handler works to create cool air and the condenser unit works to remove heat, so used together they can keep your home at a comfortable temperature.

Ducting System

There is another part of your AC system which you might never see. The ducting system in your home is typically run through an attic space, and its job is to carry conditioned air to every room in your house. These large, insulated tubes connect to the air handler and they must be airtight so the cool air it creates isn’t lost as it moves throughout the home.
