Learn About Common Condenser Issues & Their Fixes
While an air conditioning system is made up of ducting and an air handler as well, most people associate their system with the large, visible, outdoor component known as the condenser. The condenser is home to many key components of the system, and can be the cause of many common AC issues.
When your air conditioning system stops working in the summer months, it’s important to know who to call. Our company is fortunate to be the go-to provider for many people’s heating and cooling needs in the Sacramento area. We’re experienced and licensed in HVAC repair, replacement, maintenance and installation projects.
In the sections to follow, we will discuss the most common issues we typically see with condenser units. We will also speak to how we can correct these problems, and why we’re the ideal partner to handle any air conditioning repair needs you have.
Insufficient Air Flow
As you can imagine, air flow is key to the success of a condenser unit. Using the large metal fan inside the unit, it forces conditioned air through the home and also removes stale air. Since this is the case, the unit itself must be able to draw in air and also expel the air it removes from the home. While many people try to hide their AC units because of aesthetics, putting a fence, shrubs or other materials near the unit can hinder air flow and ultimately cause the system to operate inefficiently.
Mechanical Issues
As a condenser unit ages, parts are susceptible to wear and tear. Since there are many components which make up the unit itself, over time these mechanical parts can fail. Examples of this include damaged coils, bent or broken fan blades and worn or missing screws. It’s important to have your unit maintained regularly to ensure these parts don’t cause a large issue.
Electrical Problems
In a similar manner, modern units are equipped with many electrical components and sensors which regulate when the unit comes on, how long it stays on and at what capacity it runs. While these components contribute greatly to how efficient a system is, they can experience errors. If your unit is constantly running, won’t come on at all or is experiencing strange power cycles, we can check the electrical components and change any which are causing issues.
Refrigerant Leaks
Perhaps the most common issue among condenser units is refrigerant leaks. When a unit runs low on refrigerant, it’s likely to begin producing ice on the condenser itself. When this happens, cold air can’t be produced. Luckily, our team members can quickly determine the source of the leak in most instances and get it fixed before recharging the system with new refrigerant.
