Discover how handgun classes give new shooters structured instruction in firearm safety. Our instructors teach fundamentals like trigger discipline, muzzle control and range safety procedures.
A good firearms class starts with establishing a foundation of basic safety principles. Our students are taught to treat every firearm as if it is loaded and to remain aware of where the muzzle is pointed. These initial concepts provide them with the foundation they need for all the skills to come.
From there, our focus shifts to trigger discipline, where we teach students to keep their trigger finger outside the trigger guard until the moment they’re ready to fire. Our instructors reinforce this throughout the process.
Our instructors then shift focus to muzzle control to ensure the firearm always stays pointed in a safe direction when handling it. This includes loading, unloading, and addressing a jam or other technical problems. Repeating these actions on the range helps ingrain them to the point of becoming second nature.
Our handgun classes are also a great opportunity for students to learn the mechanical steps involved in safely handling a firearm. New shooters especially benefit from having an instructor walk them through these processes. This structured approach lets students ask questions, observe the correct procedure, and then practice it safely.
The overarching goal isn’t just to memorize the sequence. It’s to develop a consistent approach students can build into their muscle memory, even if they never need to use it on the range or in the real world.
Our classes often include live-fire exercises after the lesson. This allows instructors to observe how students handle the firearm and provide immediate feedback when needed.
Our Range Safety Officers also play an important role in maintaining a safe environment for everyone. Our students become familiar with range commands and procedures so everyone on the firing line understands what is happening around them.
This focus on safe gun range habits extends beyond firearm handling. We also enforce eye and ear protection as part of the routine every time you or another student steps onto the firing line.
This same type of structured repetition applies to basic shooting fundamentals. Practicing a consistent grip and stance under instructor supervision helps every student become more comfortable with handling a handgun.
Our indoor gun range is climate controlled with state-of-the-art ventilation systems. Not only does this ensure comfortable conditions, but it removes external variables. Students in our handgun classes who use a shooting lane can trust external factors like sun, wind, heat, or rain won’t affect their shot. By reducing variables, our students become more consistent, and every practice session is more productive.
