Phoenix, AZ - How Business Coaching Helps Startups Build Business Plans

SYNOPSIS: Great ideas don’t raise capital or win customers. Clear plans do. Here’s how I coach founders to turn a messy vision into a simple, testable business plan investors respect and teams can execute.

Plans That Ship: A Coach’s Guide for Founders

BY: Danny Creed, Danny Creed
I’m Danny Creed, Certified Master Coach. For decades, I’ve helped founders turn napkin notes into operating plans their teams can actually run. What a startup business plan is (and isn’t) A business plan is a one-glance map forcing hard choices: who you serve first, what problem you solve, how you’ll prove value, and where the first dollars come from. When I coach founders, we keep it practical: short, testable, and built to survive contact with real customers. If a section doesn’t help you make a decision, we cut it. The five pages that matter
  1. Promise & Proof. What change do you create, for whom, and why should anyone believe you? Show a problem worth paying for and the evidence you can solve it.
  2. Model & Money. Pricing, costs, and the early path to margin. One simple unit-economics table beats a dozen forecasts.
  3. Pipeline to First Revenue. Where will early users come from: intro partners, outbound, events, or product-led loops? Define the first month of activity.
  4. Product Scope v0.1. The smallest thing a customer will pay for, and what you’re not building yet.
  5. Milestones & Risks. 90-day outcomes, the two biggest unknowns, and how you’ll de-risk them with experiments.
When a plan fits on five crisp pages, your team can recite it, investors can question it, and you can steer it. Why a coach accelerates the planning work Founders are smart. I bring an outside lens, proven templates, and the pressure to choose. We translate vision into a plan you’ll use, complete with review cadences, owner assignments, and simple scoreboards. I specialize in business plan development, startup coaching, and strategic planning, which is work I deliver every week with early-stage teams in the Valley. What investors and lenders actually want to see
  • Focused ICP and a believable wedge into a market, not “total addressable everything.”
  • Validated economics at a tiny scale (unit margin beats vanity revenue).
  • A learning engine: how you’ll kill bad ideas fast and double down on pull from the market.
  • A crew that ships. Short cycles, visible ownership, and honest post-mortems.
A clean plan signals discipline. It also makes your first hires and advisors far more effective. Common founder traps (and upgrades)
  • Trap: Deck before decision. You polish slides to avoid trade-offs. Upgrade: Write a one-page brief first. If the brief is muddy, the deck will be, too.
  • Trap: Forecast fixation. You stack complex tabs no one believes. Upgrade: Build a simple monthly cash plan and update it each Friday.
  • Trap: Feature creep. You promise five audiences a miracle. Upgrade: Cut scope to one painful use-case and win it completely.
How we make it real in 30 days
  • Week 1: Draft the five-page plan, run stakeholder calls, and lock the first 90-day milestones.
  • Week 2: Ship v0.1, stand up your demand plan (two channels max), and instrument the ten numbers.
  • Week 3: Hold your first review, including what pulled, what stalled, and what to cut.
  • Week 4: Refine the plan, write the two-slide investor/lender addendum (risk & runway), and schedule the next 30-day sprint.
This is the heartbeat taking you from talk to traction. If you’re in Phoenix, AZ, we’ll tailor the cadence to your reality, including local partners, events worth showing up for, and the timing of your market. I serve Phoenix and the surrounding cities, and we can meet virtually or on-site. Why work with me Beyond the awards, my promise is simple: no fluff, just real-world planning you and your team will use on Monday morning. You’ll leave each session with decisions made, owners named, and the next experiment queued up. This is how startups become businesses. Get in touch me, Danny Creed, Certified Master Coach, to learn more about what I can offer your personal development.
