Phoenix, AZ - Effective Listening Advice from a Local Master Business Coach

SYNOPSIS: In today's world, it’s more important than ever to hone your listening skills with the rise of technology, our impersonal ways of communicating lead to a decline in listening skills.

Why It’s Essential to Listen as a Business Leader

BY: Danny Creed, Danny Creed
We are living in an age of incredible innovation and change. Every day, there are new discoveries and technological advances that amaze us. We can now travel farther and faster than ever before, and we have access to information once unimaginable. It's easy to take all of this for granted, but it's important to remember none of this was possible just a few generations ago. We should be grateful for all the progress made – and hopeful for all the progress yet to come.

Decline in Communication

Of course, not every change is positive. One area where we could stand to improve is our communication with each other. In our rush to keep up with the pace of change, we've lost the ability to really listen to each other. We're so focused on what we want to say next we don't bother to hear what the other person is saying. This problem will only become more prevalent as our world changes and evolves. If we can't learn to listen to each other, we'll miss out on all the amazing things happening right before us — which is a pity.

Listening is Key

Any good leader knows communication is key. To effectively communicate with those around them, a leader must first learn to listen. This means more than just hearing the words being said — it involves taking the time to understand the message being conveyed. One of the best ways to ensure this happens is to ask questions. By asking questions, leaders show they are interested in what the other person has to say and value their input. However, it is just as important to know when to stop talking and actually listen to the answer. After all, the goal is not simply to ask questions but to better understand the situation and find a way to work together for a common goal.

Why You Should Nurture Your Listening

One of the benefits of focusing on listening is it allows you to understand your employees’ needs better. By listening to what they say, you can learn about their goals and objectives and develop a strategy for helping them achieve them. Focusing on listening can also help you build trust with your employees. When they feel like you are truly interested in what they say, they are more likely to trust and feel loyal to you and your company. Finally, focusing on listening also allows you to resolve conflicts more effectively. By understanding both sides of an issue, you can develop a solution to meet the needs of all parties involved. When you take the time to listen, you can reap various benefits to help you be a more successful business leader. As a business coach, I work with leaders to develop their communication skills and get in touch with their listening skills. If you’re a business leader in Phoenix, AZ, reach out to me for expert advice on honing your listening and communication skills. I look forward to nurturing your communication to achieve your personal and professional goals.
