This is truly an amazing home located in Laurel, Maryland. The palladium window, that you see when you approach the front doors, is quite a sight and allows for a lot of light to pass through into the home. But without proper window tinting, which protects the interior furnishings and keeps heat to a minimum, the enormous window can become a problem. In fact, we’ve found that one of the most popular applications for our window films is in homes with large open entry ways.
On this project there were three main problems that we needed to address. The first concern was the amount of heat that was coming into the house, especially through the large palladium window. In addition to making the home uncomfortable, heat from the outside can be very expensive to control, especially during very warm days.
The second concern was with ultraviolet rays entering the home. UV rays are what cause the damaging effects to interior furnishings, like fading hardwood floors, or cracking on leather sofas. These are the same UV rays that we’re all concerned about when we’re in the sun, because they can cause skin cancer.
When you’re in your home, you want to feel safe from people looking inside. You don’t want people looking in and spying on your family. So to create more privacy, we install a custom window film that prevents people from seeing in, while still allowing light to pass through. One of the more common types of privacy window films that we install is the frosted window look.
The film we used for this project is Huper Optik Ceramic 35, which has tiny metal particles embedded in the film which are what do the filtering of the sun.
In addition to the large palladium window, the homeowner had us apply window film to every exterior window in the house, in order to ensure that the home is being protected from every angle.
