A router is a tool that with 2 parts
The router itself is like a drill, uses a bit. This bit is also called an end mill. It is a rotating blade, that cuts hard materials like wood, acrylic, PVC and other materials. The end mill can be a number of different sizes and the speed of the router also changes. A 1/8 inch or 1/5 inch double fluted end mill is common.
A CNC router has a table with a positioning system on it. The positioning system can move in X Y and Z. It does this very accurately. The CNC router takes a computer file and reads it into a path to cut. This can be the outline of a letter, shape or pattern. Signs for San Diego uses an “Overhead Gantry System” that is the X and Y are on arms that move above the material to be cut. A Z head with a router comes down and starts the cut.
So we program the CNC router to start the router, set the speed, choice the end
mill and then tell the positioning system to travel in a path to the start. The head dropped down and cuts hole. From that home a XY movement starts and cuts the material
CNC router are used in woodwork, plastics fabrication, engraving, prototyping and industrial millwork. CNC routers are a valuable tool to fabricate parts and pieces for a number of products.
