At the Oakland Center for Spiritual Living, we believe diversity and inclusion are not simply words but spiritual practices. Born from the teaching of Dr. Ernest Holmes and the science of Mind Philosophy, the community believes in the infinite goodness of Spirit, in interconnectedness, and the power of love. This core belief is founded on our commitment to embrace all people, whatever their backgrounds.
The Spiritual Nature of Mind, Body, Heart & Soul
OCSL teaches that man is the Self, within his totality as mind, body, heart, and soul. It invites the community to see the Divinity in each one, each form in creation, in awareness of the infinite creativity of the Self, for there to be an atmosphere of all-inclusiveness where nobody lacks worth and respect.
Dr. Ernest Holmes | A Legacy of Inclusivity
Dr. Ernest Holmes, the founder of Religious Science, acted as the principal foundation of these open traditions. His conviction that the entire creation shares a single commonality and his thoughts on constructive reasoning are some of the core mechanisms of OCSL. The fact that Holmes advocated a firm conviction that there is a power for good at the heart of the perceivable universe that is non-debatable and available to anyone who wants it acts as an epicenter of OCSL in one way or another.
Diversity as the Nature of Creation
OCSL knows creation is diverse and respectfully promotes inclusivity in its community. With respect to the fact that every individual is intrinsically good and powerful enough to make a positive impact in our lives and the world, OCSL welcomes everyone to its gatherings, classes, and events. This has been present in its leadership and decisions, ensuring diverse perspectives are represented and heard.
The Power of Community
The community at OCSL is much more than just a group of people; it is a gathering of partners in their soulful development. The Village offers spiritual learning, fun social activities, and service to the community. We ensure there is something for each and everyone to accommodate diversity.
Making Unity Real Through Education and Action
Education is a main component of our approach and understanding of diversity and inclusion. We offer many classes, workshops, and seminars, and the community learns about different cultures, beliefs, and practices.
Beyond education, OCSL acts at every level to foster inclusivity. Our outreach and connection to other local groups are meant to address social injustices and extend humanitarian aid to the marginalized. We work together to create a world where everyone can realize the goodness, power, and love of the Divine.
