Oakland, CA – Reducing PMS Symptoms Naturally for Eva

BY: JANET THOMSON, Inspire Family Acupuncture

I have a passion for working with women who are struggling with hormonal balance. Many women experience significant premenstrual symptoms and are told by their gynecologist that the only solution is to go on birth control pills. Some women are not interested in taking hormones to regulate their cycles, and for other women, the birth control pills don’t successfully treat their symptoms.

Chinese medicine enables hormonal balance naturally, helping women relieve their suffering from premenstrual headaches, cramps, nausea and vomiting, depression and anxiety, irritability, and more. Furthermore, regular acupuncture and herbal therapy can often regularize a period that is not coming reliably every 26-31 days and can help women who are suffering from excess bleeding.

As an example, last year I worked with a woman in her mid-30s who had very severe bleeding along with heavy cramping and premenstrual nausea. While Eva was seeking to reduce her genital herpes flares, I discovered in her initial appointment that she suffered significantly with her menstrual cycles and was also under significant stress. The acupuncture and herbal therapy almost immediately reduced her genital herpes outbreaks, but additionally, she saw improvements with her period-related symptoms.

When she started working with me, Eva would bleed so heavily on the first 1-2 days of her period that she would have to change her pad every hour and would often bleed through her clothing. By the end of her period sometimes her lips turned blue and she felt symptoms of anemia from the blood loss. The cramping on the first days of her cycle were significant, and she often felt nauseated and even vomited at times during the onset of her period.

Within the first two cycles, she found that her period was less intense than it had been. The bleeding, while still heavier than average, no longer seemed like hemorrhaging. The cramping became much more manageable, and she no longer had to fear her period starting. Eva became hooked on acupuncture for the premenstrual and genital health benefits, but also enjoyed the stress reduction from the appointments and discovered that she was calmer and more content at work.

Are you ready to leave your premenstrual symptoms behind? Schedule an appointment so that we can help your body get back to a natural state of balance.
