If it is tightened too much, the cap will not pop off if pressure begins to build like it will if there is a sewage or foreign object buildup in the pipe.

Whether this clog forms over time, or it is a large grease clog from a poor disposal decision, the pipes will not be able to perform the way you need them to keep the flow of water going out of your home.
