• Appearance of mold. Some molds have a white, thread-like appearance. Others appear as little back patches in bunches. Mold can be gray-brown in color, black in color, gray-green in color, or white. Mold can appear orange, pink, or purple when it develops under vinyl and wallpaper.
• Signs of water damage. Mold will develop if moisture is present for an extended period. If you detect water stains, discoloration on walls, floors, ceilings, or bubbling, cracking, or peeling paint or wallpaper in your house, you're probably dealing with mold.
• Possibility of water leaks. Mold development from leaks isn't always visible, particularly if the leak is buried behind a wall or another hidden surface. It's critical to get a leak repaired as soon as possible if you see one. Little spots of moly thrive in places where condensation often forms, such as windows and metal pipes.
• Flooding in the past. If your home has been flooded in the past, it is almost certain you will have mold growth as a result.
