Jan Folk is the founder of Orange Dog, an organization that saves the lives of shelter dogs that would otherwise be destroyed. Small breed dogs are not in great demand in southern California, so very few small shelter dogs find adoptive homes here. Orange Dog, in partnership with Global Exec Aviation provides transportation for these small dogs to areas where they will find loving new homes.
Orange Dog’s Freedom Flights to date have saved the lives of 313 dogs by relocating them to areas of greater demand. The dogs that are lucky to be part of these Freedom Flights are flown on a Gulfstream III jet from California to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in search of adoptive families. The small breed dogs are in such demand in Canada that most were adopted within two weeks of their arrival in Edmonton. In fact, there was a line of potential adopters at the Edmonton shelter waiting for the dogs to arrive!
This noble cause has gotten good publicity recently. For a recent Freedom Flight, the Gulfstream was adorned with the Orange Dog logo made by Spectrum Signs.
Members of the press covered the event, with published photos further promoting the cause and company image.
Kevin Costner has now joined forces with Orange Dog in support of rescue efforts.
Thanks to the efforts of Orange Dog, these precious pooches have been given a new “leash” on life.
