Executive Coach Gives Time Management Advice

Corporate executives often feel the need to be in two (or three) places at once. As the most in-demand person in any corporation, the CEO often is rushing from one meeting to another and trying to plan for the future of the business, lead their team, oversee product or service standards and more. Pile on personal responsibilities and the desire to have a social and/or family life outside of work, and you have a recipe for a time management nightmare.

Most CEOs are adept at managing this large workload, and can perform at a high level professionally even when their focus might be compromised. Even though CEOs are used to these high pressure environments, there can be improvements to their work/life balance, job performance and mental and physical health when their time is properly managed.

As an executive coach in the Milwaukee, WI area, it’s my role to help executives become the best versions of themselves both professionally and personally. These coaching services which focus on the person rather than the company, and can help the executive hone the unique skills necessary to lead a company.

One of these skills which is always a challenge for CEOs is time management. While my training is customized to meet the needs of each client, effective time management can be done through planning, prioritizing and taking advantage of your resources.

Understanding your personal and professional goals is the first step to effective time management. So many times, the calendars and to-do lists of executives contain tasks which might seem important on the surface but don’t actually advance their mission. When planning your days, it’s important to determine what impact each task has, and if it ultimately gets you closer to accomplishing a goal. If a task doesn’t move you forward, then it should be delegated or removed from your schedule.

This means you must carefully weigh the importance of your to-do list, and give priority to the things which matter the most. If this means removing a meeting from your schedule to make time for a family gathering, workout or other important personal event, then you must do so. Failing to appropriately account for your personal time can take a toll on your mental and physical well being.

You might be wondering how it’s even possible to remove tasks from your calendar, but when you use the resources at your disposal it becomes easier. Whether it be using scheduling tools, putting systems in place to help you automate reporting or becoming a more effective delegator, you can ensure tasks are completed even when you aren’t directly involved. This takes trust, training and time to set up, but once these tools and practices are being used you will be free to prioritize the important things.

If you feel like your days never end and you are putting important tasks on the back burner, I can help ensure you time is managed properly and help with other key skills to help you be an effective CEO. To get started, give me a call or fill out the questionnaire on my website today.
