Some company leaders may be dealing with the hardship of team productivity to reach goals. It could be challenging to get the entire staff to surpass certain expectations and turn things around. But don’t let this discourage you as the right course of action can increase business productivity, even if your company has an entirely remote staff.

Here are a few things to do to start seeing better productivity results. Over time, you can add more methods to reach the productivity levels your business needs.

Eliminate the overkill

Sometimes productivity can take a dive in the most unintentional ways and it’s most common with certain business operations. Does your staff have to jump through hoops to get their daily tasks and responsibilities? This could mean needing too many approvals, too many necessary notifications or briefs on the work at hand, or anything else employees may mention.

Make changes to business operations if they cause employee strain and are probably not necessary to complete the job. Overcomplicating operations can be viewed as a form of micromanaging. Micromanaging employees can be viewed by some as a way of ensuring productivity but it could likely backfire.

Employee resentment can be a result and productivity can be sure to decline. The goal here is to do things differently where no more time is wasted on actions considered counterproductive.

Too much of anything could counterproductive

There are a couple of things if done excessively, could hurt productivity so it is best to utilize a moderate amount. One of those actions would be company emails whether for communication or operational purposes. The last thing you want as a company leader would be employees needing the entire day working through emails unless their job is designed to do so. It takes away from other important tasks they need to prioritize.

Don’t become the company holding so many meetings, some meetings become about other meetings. You’ll hear this often in the corporate world and employees notice and their work could be slightly affected. Make meetings count and jam-packed with important information so employees will have higher engagement and increased productivity.

In addition to excessive meetings and emails, there should be a limit to the metrics you have employees track. Here’s the thing, the more metrics then the better to analyze operations right? Sure, but think to amount the metrics employees are tracking or updating. Make sure any metrics pertaining to the employee’s performance are useful to daily operations and training purposes. Anything else isn’t a consistent metric and should be analyzed periodically. This saves time in coaching employees for performance improvement.

Improvement is possible

Making these changes should ensure some increased business productivity. Start with the above things and work on changes from there. As an executive business coach, I can help you achieve increased productivity and meet the expectations set in place. Contact me via email or phone if you’re in the Racine, Wisconsin area.
