Lead a Life of Purpose by Serving Your Community

BY: Kerrie Hoffman, FocalPoint Business Coaching

Many business leaders and pioneers sought to carve an original path to success and establish a lasting influence in their communities and the world. Thinking about the legacy you and your business want to leave behind is a significant matter that will become a driving force in your career, personal life, and future actions.

Most people want to establish a positive legacy where they make a difference for others. Your unique talents, skills, beliefs, and philanthropic interests give you the authenticity to leave a lasting impression on those around you.

Clarify Your Vision of a Perfect World

Envision your perfect world and what it would look and be like, what would happen, and how you would know you’ve achieved your ideal perfect world. What actions, behaviors, and contributions would it take to create the world you envision?

What Are Your Humanitarian Values?

There are several ways to create change in the world and be the change you want to see: socially, spiritually, economically, personally, and much more. Identify the values that inspire you to provide resources to others and learn what qualities of philanthropic organizations and movements you value.

  • Are you driven by love?
  • Are you driven by knowledge?
  • Are you driven by kindness?
  • Are you driven by religion?

Choose a value as your FocalPoint and create a goal to contribute to causes and organizations aligning with your value.

Set Goals for Charitable Contributions

Think about what you want to contribute to society. Set goals to invest time, energy, or money in organizations and causes you resonate with and begin to contribute to them daily.

Your contributions do not have to be financial if you haven’t yet reached financial security and independence. However, it is beneficial to start thinking about what charities and movements you envision investing most in if you had unlimited financial resources to get an idea of what matters most to you.

Adopt Good Charitable Habits

What behaviors are conducive to benevolence?

  • Self-discipline
  • Diligence
  • Wisdom
  • Foresight
  • Patience
  • Humility

Pick what behaviors fuel you to establish a meaningful and positive effect on your community and develop them.

Create a Daily Activity Schedule

Prioritize purposeful action and engage in activities where you’re actively contributing to your FocalPoint philanthropic cause or organization. When you do what you love, you’ll be more consistent and dedicated in your philanthropic and charitable activities.

Commit to Humanitarian Action

Once you’ve created your goal based on your FocalPoint philanthropic cause, make a specific action commitment now to make the difference you want to make and what you want your business to make.
