The internally illuminated individual channel letter – whether is be incandescent, neon, LED or other – has been a sign industry staple of many years now. The actual manufacture of the letters is obviously the most labor-intensive part of the process. But the REAL question has always been: How do you connect the set of letters to the source of power?
When the sign industry talks “raceway,” it means the custom-made section backing of an illuminated letter sign. This metallic box holds the secondary wiring, the power supply, the line voltage and maybe even the service switch.
Any sign company that manufactures, distributes and installs raceway signage will probably agree that installation is a relatively simple process. Whether using the raceway as a support mechanism or as an electrical housing, these types of raceways and their supports make the sign unique.

There are a few tricks that designers and installers can use when it comes to utilizing raceways:
*Camouflage the raceway, then the look of the raceway will be minimized.
*Don’t make the raceway a specific size or shape. You can design and build a raceway as a larger shape that not only fulfills the electrical and mounting functions but also keeps with necessary sign design requirements.
*Place the reverse-lit letter on a large band. This method will make for a full backing and contribute to a well-finished sign
