If you have driven around the city of Smyrna in the past year, you may have noticed it’s gotten more colorful. The City of Smyrna has been working with local artists to bring bits of art to the street for all to see. One of the most noticeable features has been the newly wrapped utility boxes, printed and installed by Signs and More.
After the first round of art came to us, we were eager to be part of these beautification projects around the city. While other cities may have done this first, we were excited to see the unique works of art done for a local community. Every year the city of Smyrna adds more to this initiative, and we are proud to make projects come to life.
Along with the utility box wraps, Signs and More also wrapped the North Cooper Lake bike tunnels, using the same vinyl wrap application as the utility boxes. Originally, these tunnels were green all around. Now, these wraps add another pop of color alongside the iconic rainbow letters that spell out “SMYRNA” along the bike path. These wraps will last for many years and are an exciting addition to the city’s public art collection for everyone to enjoy.
Below is a list of 10 boxes and 2 tunnels that we had the opportunity to wrap, as well as the artist who created the art file!
- Monica Tookes Webb, South Cobb Drive and Windy Hill Road
- Deanna Sirlin, South Cobb Drive and King Springs Road
- Mungo Ligoya, South Cobb Drive and Concord Road
- Leah Kellaway, South Cobb Drive and Church Road
- Leigh Pursley, Oakdale Road and Highlands Parkway
- Ashli Ognelodh, Concord Road and Atkins Way
- Kristen Ramsey, South Cobb Drive at Crossings, in front of Kroger
- Hayley Vaughn, Spring Road and Jonquil Drive
- Brandon Moultrie, South Cobb Drive and Highlands Parkway
- Billie Liao, Spring Road and Park Road
- Dana Montlack, Tire Track bike tunnel
- Massive Burn Studios, Striped Design bike tunnel
We are excited for the opportunity to continue with the City of Smyrna next year as they continue this initiative. Signs and More is happy to work with artists to bring their vision to life and make our local communities more colorful and lively, even if it is just one at a time. These utility box and bike tunnel wraps take cold city architecture and bring curiosity and color to an everyday commute. With each wrap, we help the city become more identifiable amid Atlanta’s sprawling suburbs.
