The public library in Winder, Georgia is one of the busiest libraries in the Piedmont Library System, with thousands of visitors monthly. Such a busy library requires clear signage that can stand up to high traffic and the elements. A recently installed sign made of durable King ColorCore® was the perfect fit for the library. Signage Challenges
Other signs available on the market are made out of thin metal, plastic, wood, or laminated material which fall prey to the elements and can become damaged easily. Harsh weather conditions can cause cracking and splitting of the layers that make up laminated products. Constant exposure to the elements on a daily basis can lead to fading of color as well as the build-up of dirt and debris. Signage in high-traffic areas is often the target of vandals - - using a variety of water and oil based paints, markers, etc., to deface the message. Often times, the cleaning necessary to address these types of situations brings its own set of hazards by the presence of environmentally dangerous chemicals. Materials used in the production of King ColorCore® are held to the highest standards in the industry and have successfully been through the rigors of approval or certification by multiple federal agencies, such as the Environmental Protection Agency, the Federal Drug Administration, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The materials are BPA free, formaldehyde free, and completely recyclable.

King ColorCore® comes in a variety of color combinations customizable for any project, and will retain its color longer under the influence of the elements. The durable polymer’s high impact resistance enables the product to withstand more wear and tear than conventional sign material. The polymer will not crack and split like the layered laminate materials used in other signage. The multi-color polymer sheet is made with a state-of-the-art process called PolyFusion® which produces an advantageous thickness for easy and quick engraving, increasing production speed. It’s also easy to clean without the use of harsh chemicals. A glance through the Chemical Resistance Chart will show resistance to acetone, alcohols, ammonia, boric acid, calcium chloride, carbonic acid, citric acid, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, petroleum spirits, phosphoric acid, silicic acid, sulphuric acid, and a host of other chemicals. An optional upgrade for King ColorCore® is called King MicroShield® which provides antimicrobial protection. The polymer is infused with an agent that reduces bacteria, algae, and fungi by 99 percent. The antimicrobial agent is bonded at the atomic level and will not seep into the surrounding environment, making it safe to handle or transport. Standard cleaning procedures easily keep King MicroShield® products clean and hygienic.
Another optional upgrade is called King FlameShield which addresses the requirements for compliance regulations ASTM E-84 Class A or B flame/smoke compliance and CAN/ULC-S102 for Canadian compliance. If this product is burned, no harmful gasses will be released.
