Adopting a vegan diet won’t necessarily help you lose weight. There are still some unhealthy foods that fall under the vegan category such as potato chips and candy, so this diet will only help you lose weight if you stick to the healthy vegan foods such as vegetables and fruits.

Plant Based Diet and Flexitarian Diet

Although both of these are two different diets, their core principle is the same. Your main food intake should consist of plant based foods with occasional sides of meat.

Plant based foods are packed with fiber and nutrients, and have less fat as compared to meat and animal products. One study found that overweight adults on average lost 26 lbs in six months when followed a plant based diet.

Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent fasting limits the amount of time you can eat, making it a straightforward approach to cut calories. There are two major ways to do this. You can either keep to your normal diet 5 days a week, then consume a very low calorie diet (usually around 500 calories), or you could restrict your eating to an 8-hour window every day. But eating extremely unhealthily in the 8-hour window will negate the effects of the fasting period.

This diet limits your calorie consumption and therefore helps in taking off a few pounds of fat. A study has found that this dieting approach can increase your fat burning while retaining your muscle mass.

Dash Diet

Dash diet, short for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension, is a diet designed to treat people with high blood pressure. Although not primarily targeted at weight loss, this diet is reported to help in that aspect as well.

This diet requires you to eat mostly lean meats, vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. Red meat, sugars, salt and fat are to be avoided or used less frequently.
