Piedmont Triad, NC – Illuminated Channel Letter Sign for Pizza Shop Expansion
Sign Resources of NC, Inc. located in Kernersville had the recent opportunity to work with Blue Rock Pizza on their new location at Adams Farm in Greensboro. The High Point, NC based pizza restaurant contracted us to create the signage for their new location within a strip mall. We needed to represent Blue Rock Pizza’s existing funky, fun and eclectic vibe that the High Point restaurant is known for in the signage at this second location.
Blue Rock Pizza – High Point, NC
The original Blue Rock has artsy hand painted walls, vinyl record wall decor, lots of lights and plenty of taps along with great pizza. People indulge in great food and beverage while taking in occasional live music. The Flames within the original logo give it a rock n roll sort of “biker” vibe, but this place has a little something for everyone, creating an environment anyone can appreciate. Below, the original Blue Rock location uses a printed polymetal sign with bold graphics.

The new location is a corner unit as shown below and has plenty of room for signage but we are limited in our options due to property management requirements. We took the existing logo font from the original restaurant and presented an illuminated channel letter sign option to give Blue Rock the bold presentation it deserves.
What is Channel Letter Signage? Channel letters are custom-made, 3 dimensional metal or plastic graphic letters commonly used in exterior signage on public and commercial buildings that stand out from the mounting surface, and are often internally illuminated. A channel letter can be any letter, number, or other character that create a single sign when combined with others. Each letter is made using aluminum sheeting and acrylic. Highly flexible, these signs can be made using a wide variety of fonts, colors, and sizes to fit your custom needs.
For the Blue Rock Pizza job we chose to go with Front-Lit Channel Letters. This is the most common type of illuminated channel letter sign. A front lit channel letter will have an acrylic face, trim cap, aluminum returns, and an aluminum back. This type of sign can be customized in a variety of ways and with the funky Blue Rock font we thought this was an easy choice. The white acrylic face allows the inner light to pop and be bold in the evening hours.
This installation required that we use painted raceway mounts. Raceway mount is commonly used as property management companies and landlords will require that any channel letter signs be installed on a raceway. Simply put, a raceway is a metal “box” that houses the electrical wiring and power supply for the individual letters themselves. The advantage to this type of mount is that it reduces the amount of drilling and penetration into the facade of the building. Typically the raceway is painted to match the facade of the building so that it goes virtually unnoticed. You can barely see the raceway in the images shown as ours was painted ivory to match the brick.
