How Businesses Can Help Reduce Plastic Waste

It’s no secret that waste and pollution are deep in every part of our world. The oceans themselves are filled with waste, specifically plastic. Not only is this harmful to the animals that live there, but it can also impact our world long term. Businesses have a part to play in reducing plastic waste to improve our world for future generations.

Use Less Plastic

One of the first things businesses can do is take a look at their use of plastic in the office. Have you implemented an office recycling program! Do you have regular recycling pickup scheduled? Next, take a look at the plastic employees use. Can you give out glass water bottles as an incentive to reuse water bottles instead of bringing in plastic water bottles? Any way to reduce the use of plastic means less waste ends up in the oceans.

Supply Chains

The next step for offices when considering using less plastic and investing in an office recycling program is to take a look at the supply chain. How do you package what you send out? What kind of packaging do your favorite products use? Is there a way to ensure your company is buying and selling materials packaged in a more environmentally friendly way?

Perform a Waste Audit

Another thing offices can do is perform a waste audit. Take a close look at exactly what waste your office produced. Then, have a team come in or put together your own team to create a plan for how your office can work towards reducing overall waste and intent green strategies. This is a great way to be sure you are doing your part to create a sustainable future for everyone.
