How Are Car Wraps / Vehicle Graphics Priced?
Material cost is a significant factor in the price of a vehicle wrap. It is dependent on the size of the vehicle and how much of it is covered in vinyl – and the vinyl is laminated to protect the print from fading, scratching, weather, and pollution. Then there’s the cost to print the graphic. A full wrap on a van or large vehicle uses a lot of material.
The other two major costs are in design time and installation. Designing can take 4 – 8 hours or more depending on complexity. Installation can take a day or two and often requires more than one person (doubling your man-hours). Some vehicles are flat and easy to apply vinyl to. Others have curves, angles, rivets, more doors and windows… every make and model is different.
The point here is to get your business in front of people. Sure, the big splashy full wrap will create excitement and attract attention. But the more important objective is for potential customers to see your company name over and over and over as you and your employees go about your business.
There are a couple of options to a full wrap. Partial vehicle wraps, as the term implies, covers only a portion of the vehicle. The second option is to combine some full-color vehicle graphics with vinyl lettering. In both cases you’ve drastically reduced the amount of material. Design time may or may not be less – the vehicle is still the whole canvas and has to be taken into consideration with the design. Installation will likely be less since there’s less material to apply.
You can figure on at least $12.00 / sf to print and laminate the design plus $2-4.00 / sf to install. Prices will vary significantly from one area to another. Be wary of low prices – you’ll get what you pay for which is a lousy job and / or inferior materials. This is not the investment to cut corners on.
