Campaign and Election Signs
Voting season is upon us! With every right comes a responsibility; with the right to vote comes the responsibility to be an informed voter. One way candidates ensure the public knows who they are and what they stand for is with campaign signs. They start sprouting up on every street corner.
The people who run for public office deserve a “hats off” regardless of their politics. It takes courage, time, and money. Running a campaign is expensive. We’ve all heard the stories of people spending millions of dollars to run a national campaign. While local candidates might not spend millions, they spend a lot.
Election signs need to be clear, concise, and well “branded” in a way that makes economic sense. The candidate’s message must be consistent but stated in a very succinct way on a sign. The size of the sign makes a difference. It does no good to have hundreds of signs out if they are too small to read. Larger signs shout the message but are more expensive. Strategically placing a combination of large and medium sized signs will have the most impact.
In most cases campaign signs are placed where people are driving past them. This gives the reader very little time to grasp the message, seconds in fact. When the sign is designed to convey the candidate’s “brand” consistent with other campaign materials it will attract people’s attention and they’ll subconsciously absorb the message without having to read every word. Consistency and frequency are key to immediate recognition.
A well designed campaign sign is worth every penny spent on it. Coroplast signs – a corrogated plastic – are the most frequently used election signs because they are the durable and economical. They work well for street corners and roadway signs. Larger signs should be made of something sturdier like PVC and mounted securely.
