All you asked for was a 4ft by 6ft banner and what you got were questions! Who knew a banner was so complicated?? Here are some tips so you are better prepared to order the banner you really need!
Indoor or outdoor? Indoor banners are not exposed to mother nature so they can be made of lighter materials. Fabric, rather than vinyl, are often used for indoor signs like tradeshow displays or product promotions in a retail store. Outdoor banners need to withstand wind, rain, maybe snow, heat, and sun exposure. They should be made of heavier vinyl and protected with a laminate. Wind-slits might be needed if wind is a significant factor.
Life-expectancy? How long does the banner need to last? Days, weeks, months? Higher quality materials will be needed for longer lasting banners, especially if they are outdoors. Consider the manner in which the banner is hung or fastened as well. A banner that is bungeed to stakes is more likely to tear over time than one that’s in a frame supporting three or four sides.
Vinyl lettering or full-color graphics? Simple signs with one color can be very effective – real estate signs are a good example. The high color-contrast makes the sign easy to read and simple lettering makes it easy to understand. They get the job done but don’t create a lot of excitement. Full-color graphic signs apply the picture or design and the lettering to the banner all in one step. These signs have pizz-azz! Vehicle wraps are an impressive example of full-color graphic signage but many vinyl or fabric banners are made this way.
Method of display? There are so many ways to display a banner – between two stakes, in a frame, hung on a wall, on a pole, and more. This is a good question to ask your sign company for help with. The last thing you want is a sign that crumples or falls and your message is lost.
