Rick Cittar’s Approach
It’s a great thrill and a privilege to guide young children into the world of music. My emphasis is to be a patient and friendly guide and help the child develop a love for music. A balanced mixture of discipline and fun sets the stage for a child’s life-long success.
With young children, the key is to get them to play within their ability. If they can’t grab chords yet, I work with them to really learn and understand how to read notation, and how to finger the notes properly. Many young children will switch instruments as they get older, and my goal is to give the young student a solid base from which to grow and develop on the guitar, or another instrument of their choosing.

Rick Cittar founded Arcadia Music Studio in Concord to develop a community of musicians and performers. He produces his Young Artist Showcase series to create an opportunity for his students to perform for their parents and peers.
