ADA compliant signs are vital to public buildings like schools. Without having code compliant signage, you are unable to open to the public, so it is something that needs to be taken into consideration early on when renovating a building or with new construction. The ADA signs we made for this project include room identification signs, exit signs, exit route signs, restroom signs, maximum occupancy signs, fire riser/sprinkler control signs, fire extinguisher signs, evacuation maps, stair ID signs, and exit stair down signs.
A majority of the signs were made from 1/8″ non-glare acrylic. Standard acrylic can be glossy which can prevent the sign from being easy to read which is why we use non-glare. As long as the letters contrast with the background, any color can be used. White on blue is pretty standard, but you can use any color combination to match your interior. You can incorporate your company colors, or match an accent being used in your interior decor. The signs also need to have Braille and tactile copy for those with vision impairment.
We also handle the installation of these signs because the placement is also important. ADA signs need to be installed at specific heights, and locations so we have our employees install to make sure that there will not be any issues passing inspection.
